Training Your Puppy

Puppy potty training is one of the hardest parts of puppy obedience training. Many times people will get an older dog that is already trained instead of buying a puppy because of how difficult it can be to potty train a puppy.

As with any canine training you need to have patience. When you start potty training your puppy be sure you have an area in your home where your puppy can be while you are at work or away for hours at a time. Sometimes you can use a crate if you don’t have a room with tile or vinyl. You can use newspaper or puppy training pads for the puppy to go on while he is learning. You should also not put out too much food and water while you are away.

Each time you find your puppy peeing on your carpet give him a light tap on the nose while using a harsh tone of voice telling him that this is “bad. Use a gentler tone of voice when you are showing him the locations that he is allowed to go potty. The best way to train your puppy is if you can be with him all day long for at least the first days after you bring him home. Then you can keep alert to when it looks like he may have to go and you can get him to the inside locations he can go to or if quick enough you can actually take him outside so that he knows that is where he should go when he needs to relieve himself.

Just like small children puppies need your patience while he learns what you are expecting of him. Puppy training can be quite a job but if you need to find some other helpful tips on the best ways of doing it then search on the internet for websites with dog training online information. They may have some other tips that you can use to make your job of puppy potty training easier.
